Guitarist Young Ik Jang was born in Tokyo, Japan and moved to Korea at age six. He began playing the violin at age four and later studied piano, clarinet, computer music, and guitar. Before Young Ik studied these instruments, he already started learning classical guitar with Dae-soon Kwon at age ten. While Young Ik was studying with him, he decided to major in classical guitar. At age eleven, Young Ik began to study with Byeong-Woo Lee. Since then, Young Ik has performed frequently as a soloist and member of a guitar quartet. He also won first prize in the Seoul Baroque Competition in 2004. Young Ik is now studying Classical Guitar with Julian Gray at Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins Universitysince 2010.
